The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy in Advertising
According to Ad Age, more and more marketers are opting for attack ads during these difficult times. “Attack ads are getting sharper, responses are growing testier, and an increasing number of ad battles are ending up in court.” (Ad Age, 5/25)
Most attack ads involve showing a competitive product, which poses a dilemma for advertisers and their agencies. Giving both products an equal treatment risks making the competition look good, but depicting the competition in an overtly inferior manner endangers credibility. According to the latest findings of Ace Visual Subtext Analysis, a large number of creative directors seem to think the solution is in a ‘subliminal’ visual message.
