Commercials from Procter & Gamble, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Gatorade perform well ahead of game

The opening ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games is tonight, but marketers have been airing ads related to the Games for months.

The commercials that have performed the best so far, according to Ace Metrix, will pull at your heartstrings and inspire you.

Ace Metrix tested 71 ads going back to the beginning of the year. The firm used a sample of more than 500 people that is representative of the U.S. TV viewing audience to score national ads for traits such as attention, likability and information.

According to Ad-tracker iSpot.tv, companies that have been running Olympic-themed commercials spent almost $61.6 million to air those spots since August 2015.

Yesterday, Variety reported NBCUniversal has sold over $1.2 billion in national ads for the 2016 Rio Olympics, buoyed by more live programming.

To be sure, many big advertisers have yet to reveal many of their ads. Tonight’s kickoff will be sure to include many new commercials for the games.

Here is a look at the five most liked Olympic ads, according to Ace Metrix.

Procter & Gamble “Thank you, Mom”

Olympic athletes may speak to their mothers in different languages but one thing is universal in this commercial: the power of mom’s love. In this commercial, athletes are performing on the world stage as they see flashbacks of memories when their mother guided them through difficult times.

Gatorade “Never Lose the Love”

Every athlete on the road to the Olympics was once a kid who fell in love with the sport. Gatorade in its Olympic-themed commercial debuts athletes like Serena Williams with their child athlete persona as they train.

Dick’s Sporting Goods “The Contenders”

In an inspirational monologue, the Dick’s Sporting Goods narrator in this commercial highlights the challenging journeys athletes make in their road to the Olympics.

Bounty “Allyson Felix: Faster Than Kloe”

In Bounty’s commercial USA track athlete Allyson Felix may be one of the fastest sprinters, but she can’t outpace her Yorkie Chloe with the messes she makes.

Always “#LikeAGirl Keep Playing”

Always, the feminine products company, gets young women to confront the gender stereotypes they face in sports. The company’s commercial attributes puberty as a reason behind girls quitting sports and in its message encourages girls to stay confident as athletes.
