Ad of the Week: Category Overachiever & Top Score
Samsung phoned in for a double win this week. “Do More With Ease” is both the highest scoring and best performing ad in its category of all 81 ads to have debuted last week. With an Ace Score of 672, 25.3% above the Mobile Device category norm, this spot continues to showcase Samsung’s extraordinary product demonstration advertising skills as they show off the features and functionality of the new Galaxy Note III.
After watching this new spot, we couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic. We immediately had flashbacks to Samsung’s ad for the original Galaxy Note, which came in third in the 2012 Top Ads of the Year, as scored through Ace Metrix. To see just how similar the two ads are, we even ran them through the YouTube Doubler only to be were surprised (and impressed) with the results.

Samsung’s simple focus on features coupled with soothing music seems to consistently equal a win with consumers. Much like Verizon’s Droid ad from last week, a commercial can still relay ample amounts of information without the use of a voiceover. For this spot, the Information score was 21.3% above the norm, meaning consumers learned plenty about the Galaxy Note III just from 60 seconds of on-screen text and clear visuals.
Regardless of age or gender, “Do More With Ease” scored above-the-line across all demographics. Males 16 to 20 years old scored the ad especially high, awarding it an average Ace Score nearly 30% above the Mobile Device category norm.
“Do More With Ease” has successfully mastered exactly what its title encompasses—an ad based on simple principles accomplishes a great deal in just a short amount of time.
