Coca Cola “Happy Feeling” Ace Metrix Ad Components

There is no doubt that people are drawn to a good meal and some refreshing soda. Coca-Cola’s latest ad outperforms the Soda category norm by nearly 19%, earning the widest gap to norm of all ads to debut last week. Longhorn’s newest ad introduces us to this year’s new Tastes of Summer, and earns the highest Ace Score of the week.

Category Overachiever: Coca-Cola’s “Happy Feeling :60”

Coca-Cola wins the Category Overachiever title this week with “Happy Feeling :60,” earning an Ace Score of 645, 18.69 percent above the Soda category norm.

In this animated spot, a gloomy man walks his enthusiastic dog in a park, where he’s slammed into a Coca-Cola machine. Upon taking a drink the man sees the world as his dog does. The ad is powered by Likeability and Desire, earning high scores in each component (753 and 682 respectively). The ad also performed well in both Relevance (657) and Attention (749).

The likeable aspects of the ad are highlighted in the verbatim comments, where 15 percent thought the ad was “cute,” while 8 percent enjoyed the “dog” and 7% liked the “animation.”

Highest Ace Score

Longhorn Steakhouse grills up success this week, snagging the highest Ace Score of all ads debuting in the 22nd week of the year.The ad features their new “Grilled Tastes of Summer,” showing various close-up shots of steak, corn, and salads.

“Grilled Tastes of Summer :30” earned an average Ace Score of 666, nearly 12% above restaurant category norm. Unsurprisingly, Desire powered the ad, achieving a score of 733.

When viewers were asked what the single best thing of the ad was, 30 percent said it was the product itself, followed closely by the visual scenes (29 percent). It definitely doesn’t hurt to get people’s stomachs growling!

The desire generated by the ad could also be seen in the optional verbatim comments, where 20 percent used the word “good” to describe both the ad and the food, 15 percent used the word “hungry,” and 10 percent mentioned that they “want” it.
